Fire Resistance of Composite Cladding

Is Composite Cladding Fireproof?

As a Wood-Plastic Composite (WPC) product, Cladco Composite Cladding contains natural wood fibres, meaning it is not fireproof.

However, we offer fire-rated Cladding options, such as our Fibre Cement Cladding Boards, which are Class B fire-rated for added safety.

While Composite Cladding has undergone a fire assessment, it does not have a specified fire rating, similar to Timber Cladding, due to its natural components. For this reason, we have not pursued a full fire rating for Composite Cladding.

If you require a fire-rated Cladding solution, we recommend using Fibre Cement Cladding.

Colour Variations & Natural Weathering

Due to the timber content in Composite products, natural colour variations and weathering are expected.

Once installed, Composite Cladding undergoes a colour stabilisation process, influenced by weather conditions and sunlight exposure.

If purchasing in a single order, you may notice subtle variations between Boards. However, ordering Cladding across multiple purchases may result in batch variations, leading to more noticeable differences in colour.

To minimise this:
Lay out all Boards before installation to check for variations
Mix Boards from different packs to create a more uniform appearance
Be aware that Boards may appear different in wet and dry conditions, affecting how colour variations are perceived

Sustainability Commitment

Cladco Composite products are available as FSC® certified at no additional cost. If you require FSC® certified products, please request this when placing your order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Cladco Woodgrain Cladding fire resistant and to what specification?

Please refer to our Accreditations page for full details on the fire class ratings of our products.

Are your exterior cladding boards non combustible.

Our Composite Wall Cladding Boards are tested to BS EN 13823:2010 (SBI) Standards. Find out more here

Is my Cladding maintenance-free?

Composite Cladding needs much less upkeep compared to traditional timber materials, however, it is not completely maintenance-free. Routine cleaning is essential to get rid of debris and stop potential staining. If your Cladding is located beneath overhanging trees, it is important to promptly clear leaves, petals, and sap to avoid surface marks. Additionally, water runoff from gutters and downpipes may stain the Boards, making regular maintenance vital to preserve their appearance.

Do Composite Boards fade?

Like any Composite material, our Cladding Boards go through a process of stabilisation where fading may happen until the final colour is reached. Stabilisation usually occurs during the first six months following installation. This is more evident in the woodgrain design, where shading variations can arise due to the process of sanding.

Why is airflow behind the Boards necessary?

Cladco Composite Cladding functions as a rain screen cladding option, which allows adequate airflow to enable proper ventilation of any rainwater that may penetrate the Cladding. Without sufficient airflow, standing water will not evaporate, which can lead to mould spots on your Cladding.

Why are watermarks appearing on my Composite Cladding?

Watermarks may occur as a result of the weathering process associated with Composite materials. As the tannins from the timber content of the Boards come to the surface, these marks can become visible. This condition is temporary, and the marks will naturally fade as the Cladding stabilises.

Why is spacing at the ends of the Boards required?

Ventilation behind your Cladding Boards is crucial for the evaporation of excess water. Allowing space at the ends of the Boards, around the perimeter of your installation, provides an exit for air and improves moisture control.
